2017 Blumey Nominations

CCS students and schools received nine Blumey Award nominations in six categories for their 2017 musical theater productions! Similar to Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Blumeys recognize outstanding achievement for high school musical theater. This is the sixth year for the awards, which will be presented on May 21st at the Belk Theater in the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.

CCS nominees are:

Best Set Construction
Central Cabarrus High School – Dogfight

Best Costume Creation

Central Cabarrus High School – Dogfight

Best Featured Performer
Northwest Cabarrus High School – Haylee Frazier as Lavinia (A Little Princess)

Best Supporting Actress
Northwest Cabarrus High School – Macy Skaggs as Becky (A Little Princess)

The following students have scored in the top 25 in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories and will be invited to audition before a special panel on Saturday, May 6. The six nominees for both of these categories will be chosen after the auditions and announced on Monday, May 8.

Best Actor
Central Cabarrus High School – Drew Coley as Eddie (Dogfight)
Jay M. Robinson High School – Andrew Krug as Charlie Brown (You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown)
Northwest Cabarrus High School – Tucker Skaggs as Captain Crewe (A Little Princess)

Best Actress
Jay M. Robinson High School – Alaina Newell as Lucy (You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown)
Northwest Cabarrus High School – Mia Rice as Sara Crewe (A Little Princess)

Musical productions from 45 high schools in the Charlotte-metro area were considered for the awards. Wells Fargo is the presenting sponsor of the event. Congratulations and good luck to all of our nominees!
