BOE Updates

The Cabarrus County Board of Education met on Monday, September 18, 2023, for a business meeting. Here is an update on recognitions, presentations, items for consent, and approved action items from the meeting.



  • Equitable Impact Through Education Awards for September were presented to the following students and staff members:
    • Patriots STEM Elementary School
      • Graycen Muller – Student
      • Chigoziem Nnakepe – Student
      • Claire Belles – Support Staff
      • Erin Scannell – Certified Staff
    • C.C. Griffin STEM Middle School
      • Jorge Monrreal Valles – Student
      • Rylee Moulton – Student
      • Ninette “Maria” Grey – Support Staff
      • Anthony James – Certified Staff
  • Hilbish Ford September Teacher of the Month
    • Ivy Adams, Mary Frances Wall Center
  • Great Wolf Lodge September Everyday Hero Award
    • Nicole Cavender, Kids::Plus, Bethel Elementary School



Dr. Jonathan Bowers, Chief of Auxiliary Services and Academic Performance, was joined by representatives from Cooperative Strategies, LLC., to update the Board on the status of the district’s long-range realignment study.

Brian Cone, Director of Architecture, Planning and Construction, updated the Board on current contstruction projects underway including the R. Brown McAllister Elementary School replacement, the Mondo track project at J.M. Robinson High School and the completion of the synthetic turf field at Hickory Ridge High School.



The Board voted to approve the following consent agenda items:

  • Policy revisions on first read:
    • 4130 Discretionary Admission
    • 6410 Operating of the Purchasing Equipment
    • 6330 Insurance for Student Transportation Services
    • 6315 Drivers
    • 7503 Teleworking
    • 4310 Integrity and Civility
  • Approval of bid for Bethel Elementary roof replacement
  • Approval of bid for C.C. Griffin Middle School roof replacement
  • Approval of data/cabling bids for R. Brown McAllister Elementary
  • Approval of Mosyle OneK12 mobile device management


The Board voted to approve the following action agenda items:

  • Hickory Ridge Middle School request for land purchase
  • Policy 2302 and 2342 on first read

The Board of Education will next meet on Monday, October 2nd for their monthly work session. This meeting will begin at 6:00 P.M. in the Board Room of the Education Center. The agenda can be viewed on BoardDocs.
