Dear Cabarrus County Schools families,
I hope this message finds you well. As we approach the upcoming spring break, I want to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to each and every one of you. It has been a busy and productive academic year so far, filled with accomplishments, challenges, and the collective dedication of our outstanding students, educators, staff, and parents.
As we temporarily step away from the routines of the school calendar, I encourage everyone to embrace the opportunity for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Spring break provides a well-deserved pause in our schedules, allowing us to recharge our minds and bodies for the exciting ventures that lie ahead.
Our district and school staff have begun the implementation of the 2024-25 realignment. In an effort to acquaint students and families with our new boundaries, we are thrilled to announce the upcoming "New to School" events across our district this spring.
These events will provide a wonderful opportunity for new students and families to familiarize themselves with their respective schools, meet our dedicated staff, and establish connections ahead of the new school year, set to kick off in August 2024.
We extend a warm welcome to all families "New to School," encompassing those affected by realignment, kindergarteners joining us for the first time, rising 3rd-grade families at W.R. Odell Elementary, rising 6th-grade families to our middle schools, and rising freshmen to our high schools.
We are excited about the positive impact these events will have on fostering a sense of community and belonging within our schools.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our school district. Your dedication contributes immensely to the success of our community, and I am truly grateful for the collective efforts of each and every one of you.
Wishing you a restful and rejuvenating spring break!
Dr. John Kopicki
I trust this message finds you well and enjoying your summer vacation with families and friends. I hope you have a restful break and come back energized as we continue to implement our district’s strategic plan, and continue on our journey to Destination 2025. We are proud of the work our students and staff accomplished during the past year, and we’re excited to get the 2023-24 school year underway when Wolf Meadow students return on July 18th. We will welcome our early college and traditional calendar students back on August 10th.
Cabarrus County is thriving. Our district is growing rapdily with many new families choosing to call Cabarrus County home. Concord was recently named by Fortune Magazine as the nation’s 20th best city to raise a family.
Access to high-quality education is a key driver in that growth and economic success. Strong communities and strong schools go hand in hand. Based on next year’s enrollment projections, Cabarrus County Schools, the eighth largest district in North Carolina, will exceed the 35,000-student mark for the first time.
This growth is both exciting and challenging. Our school system is diversifying and undergoing an expansion of new demands and innovative ideas.
This year, I have held numerous community meetings, administered surveys, reached out to many members of our school community, and sought your input on many issues affecting our district. In doing so, we heard your concerns and will take your input to heart as we move forward as a district. Improved communication was one of those issues of importantance to you, and we have implemented several changes to the way we will communicate information with you.
As a reminder, we continue to enroll students of all ages for the fall. Any child who is five years old on or before August 31, 2023, is eligible to register for kindergarten. Visit our district enrollment webpage by clicking HERE. Please contact your school directly to schedule an in-person enrollment visit. You can find your assigned school by clicking on the CCS Find My School link.
Finally, our Back to School webpage is ready for your return. On this page, you can find important information including our Open House schedule. Open House for middle and high schools will be held on August 7th with elementary schools hosting Open House events on August 8th. Wolf Meadow will hold it’s Open House on July 13th.
Safe travels this summer, and I look forward to beginning our year strong upon your return.
John Kopicki, Ed.D.
