Walter elected to BOE chair; new members sworn in
The Cabarrus County Board of Education began a new session on Monday, Dec. 2nd by swearing in three new members, one returning member, electing Board leadership positions, and recognizing the contributions of outgoing members.
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS
Re-elected Rob Walter joined newly elected members Melanie Freeman, Greg Mills, and Catherine Moore for their swearing in ceremony. The Honorable Judge Marty McGee, District 19A of the North Carolina 4th Superior Court Division, administered the Oath of Office.
The four then took their seats at the dais alongside Pam Escobar and Sam Treadaway, who are serving the remaining two years of their four-year terms through December 2026.
BOARD LEADERSHIP
The Board voted to elect Walter to the Chair position and immediately followed by electing Mills to serve as Vice-Chair.
Walter, who previously served as Board Vice-Chair in 2019 and Board Chair in 2020, is starting his fourth term on the Board of Education.
ADCOCK, FLOYD RECOGNIZED FOR SERVICE
Prior to the swearing-in of new members, outgoing members Denise Adcock and Brian Floyd were honored for their service on the Board of Education. Both Adcock and Floyd chose not to seek re-election.
Both Keshia Sandidge, who lost her re-election bid in November’s election, and Laura Blackwell Lindsey, who was sworn in earlier Monday as a Cabarrus County Commissioner, were unable to attend the Board of Education meeting. The Board will discuss the process for filling Lindsey’s vacant seat at their Dec. 9th business meeting.
