Middle School Gifted Services

Our middle school gifted program is designed to challenge and support advanced learners as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Here, you’ll find information about middle school advanced coursework and how we continue to nurture student strengths through collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.

 

Middle School Advanced Coursework Continuum

Tier 1 or 2: Academically & Intellectually Gifted in Math OR High Achieving Math Students 

  • Advanced Math Pathway (AMPS)
    • 6th Grade: Students instruction will be compacted and focus on multiple grade level standards in preparation for Math 1 in 8th grade. Students will take the 6th grade Math EOG. 
    • 7th grade: Students instruction will be compacted and focus on multiple grade level standards in preparation for Math 1 in 8th grade. Students will take the 7th grade Math EOG. 
    • 8th Grade: Students will take the Math 1 course and could earn high school credit for their math class. Students will take the Math 1 EOC.

Tier 3: Highly Advanced Math Students (FEW)

  • Double Accelerated Math Pathway
    • 6th Grade: Student instruction will be compacted and focus on 7th and 8th grade math standards in preparation for Math 1 in 7th grade. Students will take the 6th grade Math EOG. Evaluation for this pathway takes place in 5th grade. Students must complete an onboarding course during the summer prior to sixth grade. 
    • 7th Grade: Student instruction will focus on the Math 1 course and could earn high school credit for their math class. Students will take the 7th grade Math EOG and Math 1 EOC. 
    • 8th Grade: Student instruction will focus on the Math 2 course and could earn high school credit for their math class. Students will take the Math 2 EOC. 

Tier 1 or 2: Academically & Intellectually Gifted in Reading OR High Achieving Reading Students

  • Advanced Language Arts Placement (ALPS)
    • An opportunity for students to develop flexible and strategic ways to read and write about a wide variety of complex texts in a fast-paced and fluid environment. Students will take the Reading End-of-Grade Test that corresponds with their current grade level. 

 

AIG identified students will be scheduled for advanced courses that match his/her area of gifted identification. Advanced courses are available at all middle schools for students who meet placement criteria. Contact your child’s middle school for more information regarding course guidelines.
