#1 "Thank you!" from Dr. Kopicki
Cabarrus County Schools family:

I would like to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support shown by our schools and communities this week in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in the mountains of North Carolina. The generosity and compassion demonstrated through donations, volunteer efforts, and acts of kindness have been nothing short of remarkable.

In times of crisis, we often see the best of humanity, and our CCS family has once again shown that we are a community built on care, service, and a commitment to one another. The efforts made by our students, staff, parents, clubs, teams and local organizations are a true reflection of our values and our dedication to helping those in need. You have not only provided immediate relief to the victims but also hope for brighter days ahead.

Your actions remind us all of the power of unity and the positive change we can make when we come together. I am incredibly proud to lead such a compassionate and resilient community. Thank you for your continued support and for making a difference in the lives of those affected by this tragedy.

Stay well,

Dr. John Kopicki
Superintendent, Cabarrus County Schools

Cabarrus County Matching Incentive Grants
Grants pay up to 50% of project cost; submit through Oct. 11

CONCORD, N.C. – For 47 years, Cabarrus County’s Active Living and Parks (ALP) Department has supplied nearly $2.3 million to help fund community enhancement projects through the Matching Incentive Grant Program.

Applications are now being accepted, and this year the application period is extended through October 11.

The Matching Incentive Grant Program encourages non-profit groups (PTOs, civic clubs, youth sports organizations, church organizations, garden clubs, athletic or recreation associations) to provide more adequate recreational and park facilities in their local communities.

All improvements must be located on public property owned by Cabarrus County, the boards of education, a municipality within the county or property leased to the County for a minimum of 15 years.

Grant applications are prioritized based on the type of project.

Last year, the Rotary Club of Concord used grant funds to install new bicycle repair stations at Mickey McGee Park, Brown Mill Mountain Bike Trail and the Hector H. Henry Greenway.

Other past projects included the creation and renovation of nature and fitness trails, playgrounds, disc golf courses, picnic shelters, press boxes, concession stands, ballfields, ball courts and gardens.

Grants provide up to 50 percent of the actual project cost, based on the amount approved by the ALP Commission.

For more information on the Matching Incentive Grant Program, contact Ian Sweeney at 704-920-3488 or ijsweeney@cabarruscounty.us
