Personnel announcements
Superintendent Dr. John Kopicki has announced the following personnel appointments, which were approved by our Board of Education on Monday, November 12.
Dustin Shoe, principal at Central Cabarrus High School, has been named Chief of Staff for the district replacing Dr. Katherine Propst, who has retired. Dustin will begin his new role with the district once a replacement principal has been named at Central Cabarrus.
Dustin has served in his current role at Central Cabarrus since 2018. He previously served as principal at C.C. Griffin STEM Middle School and Beverly Hills Elementary School. Dustin began his education career in 2004 as an English teacher in Cabarrus County.
Dustin holds a bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University and a master's degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte.
Melony Ritter, Career & Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator for Cabarrus County Schools (CCS), has been named Director of CTE for the district, replacing Dr. Rusty Parker, who has resigned. Melanie will begin her new role on November 18.
Melony began her current role with CCS in 2017. Prior to that, she served as CTE Curriculum & Instructional Management Coordinator (CIMC) for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and as a building-level CIMC at South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte.
Melony holds both a bachelor’s and master's degree from Alfred University in New York.
Haleigh McManus, principal intern at Harold E. Winkler Middle School, has been named assistant principal at the school, replacing Robert Weirich, who has resigned. Haleigh will begin her new role at H.E. Winkler Middle on November 26.
Haleigh's educational career began at Winecoff Elementary as a 3rd grade teacher in 2018. Since 2019, she has served as a classroom teacher in multiple grade levels at Coltrane-Webb STEM Elementary School.
Haleigh holds a bachelor's degree from Appalachian State University and will complete her master's degree work at the University of North Carolina Charlotte in May 2025.
Benjamin Pitts, principal intern with Cabarrus County Schools, has been named assistant principal at Central Cabarrus High School replacing Angelia Grant, who has resigned. Benjamin was approved for his new role by the Board of Education in October and began serving as assistant principal at Central Cabarrus on November 13.
Benjamin began his education career as a Math teacher in Cabarrus County Schools in 2017.
He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte and will complete his master's degree work at UNC Charlotte in May 2025.
