PES named 2025 State School of Character
Patriots STEM Elementary School has been recognized as a 2025 State School of Character by Character.org, one of only two schools in North Carolina to receive the designation this year. The prestigious designation is awarded to schools that exemplify excellence in character development, fostering a culture where core ethical values guide every aspect of school life.
"Patriots is so proud to be honored as a State School of Character,” said Principal Amy Peters. “This recognition reflects the work our teachers and staff do in the classrooms every day to support the whole child. Patriots is a great place for students to learn and grow!"
Criteria for selection are based on Character.org’s 11 Principles Framework for Schools: A Guide to Cultivating a Culture of Character. The Framework includes key indicators on creating a caring school community where everyone feels they belong, providing students with opportunities to practice and reflect on their character strengths, and engaging families and communities as partners in the school’s character initiative.
The recognition reflects Patriots STEM Elementary's commitment to nurturing honesty, respect, responsibility, and compassion among its students. By integrating character education into daily activities and curriculum, Patriots has created an environment where students are encouraged to be ethical, empathetic, and culturally aware global citizens.
This honor not only celebrates the hard work of the students and staff but also highlights the school's dedication to character education. Being named a State School of Character qualifies the school to be considered for National Schools of Character status, a designation held for five years.
