We hope you're enjoying your break. Welcome to this week's summer edition of The Friday Five. The Friday Five will be sent every other week during the summer to keep you up-to-date on upcoming events and information. Please make sure to take a look at the community engagement events at the end of this newsletter for summer engagement opportunities.

Cabarrus County has also created a centralized list of summer camp opportunities—from STEM to the arts to outdoor adventures. This document includes camp details, eligibility, and direct links to register.

#1 CCS School Nutrition will participate in NC summer meals program beginning June 2nd!

  • Bus delivery will be Monday - Thursday, from June 2nd-July 31st.
  • No ID or registration required!
  • Free, healthy meals for kids and teens 18 and younger!

#2 Online Athletics Participation Forms

CCS Athletics’ Online Athletic Registration for middle and high school student-athletes is currently live on DragonFly. To access the DragonFly system, please visit your school's athletics webpage and click the "Registration" link at the top of the page.

Summer athletics workouts may begin on June 2, so please make certain that your child is 100% registered in DragonFly and has a current up-to-date physical which is required before they are allowed to participate.

#3 Summer 2025 Need-to-Knows



  • VOLUNTARY STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE NOW AVAILABLE: Cabarrus County Schools is pleased to announce that voluntary student accident insurance applications for the 2025–26 school year are now available. This optional coverage, provided through K&K Insurance Group, Inc., may offer families an added layer of financial protection in the event of student injuries during school activities. Enrollment is open year-round, and parents or guardians can conveniently apply online. For more details, including plan options and pricing, please visit the official CCS Voluntary Student Accident Insurance page: Cabarrus County Schools. For questions about enrollment or benefits, contact K&K Insurance customer service at 855-742-3135. For claims assistance, call 800-237-2917.

  • SUMMER HOURS: Cabarrus County Schools employees will again operate on a 10-hour day, 4-day work week summer schedule beginning on June 2nd. CCS facilities will be open M-Th each week from 7am-5pm. CCS will return to its normal five-day weeks on July 25th.   • SUMMER DRIVER'S ED: CCS will offer the June driver's education session from June 9th-24th and the July session from July 10th-25th. Information about driver's education and registration can be found at https://www.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/6923_3 . Registration for the summer sessions opened at 7:00 a.m. May 1st.

  • STEM CAMPS: Cabarrus County Schools will hold STEM camps this summer for rising 2-5 graders at PES, RBMES, WMIES, and CWES. Registration is limited to students enrolled in a CCS STEM school. Camp Times: 8:00 AM-12:00 PM, Cost: $150.00 a week Who? , Rising 2nd-5th Graders at RBMES, PES, WMIES, and CWES, When: June 2-5 and June 16-19. Camp registration and payment will close on May 27th at 5 PM. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. We will confirm registration once we receive payment. Seniors—if you had a 2.8 weighted GPA at the end of your junior year and meet minimum course requirements, you’re already in! Not a senior just yet? You could be eligible for this program next year!   • No child should go hungry during the summer. Families can find free summer meal sites across North Carolina offering breakfast and lunch to all children and teens aged 18 and under—no registration or ID required.

Upcoming Back-to-School vaccination clinics

Is your child a 6th, 11th grader or soon to be kindergartener who needs immunizations to comply with state law for next school year? If so, the Cabarrus Health Alliance is holding school immunization clinics on the following dates at our Kannapolis location to provide these vaccines.
  • June 11, 2025, 1-3:30 PM
  • June 25, 2025, 1-3:30 PM
  • July 9th, 2025, 8AM—11AM and 1PM—3:30PM
  • July 23rd, 2025, 8AM—11AM and 1 PM—3:30 PM

Cost: Free for those 18 years and younger who are uninsured or have Medicaid. Cabarrus Health Alliance can file with most private insurances such as United Health Care, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Medcost, and Ambetter. Please call your insurance to make sure we are in network and to confirm benefit coverage.

Attention rising CCS 9th-12th graders (and rising 8th graders with a teacher recommendation), it's time to register for the 2025 SparkNC Summer Camps!! 

This summer, we have a variety of options for you throughout the months of June and July with amazing weekly summer camps!! Students will have the opportunity to explore SparkNC Units that require a kit as well as units that require our high-tech computers in the SparkLab! Join us to explore the robots in the lab as well as drones, VR Headsets, game development and so much more!! Students will also have a chance to participate in Student Led Hackathons and Capstone Workshops!!

A flyer for a free safety event for rising kindergarten students, hosted by the Junior Charity League of Concord. The event will cover topics like nutrition, dental hygiene, gun safety, fire safety, and stranger danger.

Safety Town for rising kindergarten is July 22, 23 at Rocky River Elementary

Safety Town is a cherished Concord tradition that provides rising kindergarteners with age-appropriate safety rule experiences in a fun and unique format. Police officers, firefighters, and volunteers from the Red Cross teach bus, gun, and fire safety, just to name a few. During this free half-day camp, League volunteers supervise the students as they rotate through each class.
